January in Northern Michigan
January 23, 2012
Well, weather in Mackinaw certainly can't be said to be boring. I beleve we have had a little of everthing this past few days.
Thursday at 3 p.m. will be our first book discussion group and if you haven't read it please consider coming anyway. The author will be doing a call-in and we will plan on having a fun time talking about the book, your opinions about it and enjoyng each others company.
Our newest big news is the donation of a new TV and DVD/VCR player/recorder for the Michigan room. We are now able to take VCR tapes and record them on DVD for you (for a small fee) so those old family videos can be viewed again. Please call the library for more information.
The TV is set up so that the videos and DVD's in the Michigan room can be viewed in the library. We can also show movies specific to exhibits and items of interest from the library. Right now we are showing a documentary movie made by a local man about the Cheif Wawatam.
Also, please stop in and see our display of artifacts from the Chief Wawatam that are on loan from the Michigan State Historic Parks. The historic and well-remembered railroad/car ferry arrived in the Straits Area 100 years ago in October of 1911. Anyone who remembers the boat (ship?) is welcome to make an appointment and have your memories recorded for future generations of historians and researchers. We have a model of the Chief that is also a time capsule. These recordings will be transfered to cd and placed in the model.
