Mackinaw Area Public Library

About Us

We are the Mackinaw Area Public Library

Mackinaw City

The Mackinaw Area Public Library began with a women's study group in 1912.  Two years late the group became the Mackinaw Woman's Club, focused on literacy, education and philanthropic work.  The Library was founded officially in 1915 and housed in the Woman's Club Clubhouse.  One of there first projects was to collect the first set of books to begin the library.  The Library celebrated its 100th birthday in 2015.  The current building was built in 1985.  The adjoining Michigan room was added in 1991.
